PRESS RELEASE – TUESDAY 5TH MAY 2020

ARRIVAL D CONCERT – 30TH MAY 2020
‘Free’ Live Stream to support Artistes most affected by Pandemic Shutdown.

The ‘Novel Coronavirus’ has affected the way people do business in every part of the world. It will also have a serious impact on the way we do business in the future.

While almost every industry has been affected, many of these businesses will start the road to recovery once economies start opening up across the world.

The entertainment industry is one of these industries that have been affected in a major way. While many other businesses may see a light at the end of the tunnel, our local artistes in Trinidad & Tobago are faced with ‘zero’ income from an industry that went from 100 to ‘nil’ literally overnight. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for artistes.

Our local artistes who are ’superstars’ in their own right, are very simple folk, who have been quietly suffering with many of them having no where to turn. There are many artistes that are off the grid, not as popular as others, and while they made a living from ‘cooking to cooking’, weddings, etc – basically ‘gig to gig’, they are now faced with no form of income, and no way to put food on their table.

Southex, being the producers of the annual Chutney Soca Monarch, have been one of the ‘caretakers’ of the Indo-Caribbean music industry which includes dancers, artistes, musicians etc. With this in mind, Southex feels a responsibility as one of the ‘caretakers’ to now do something to ‘take care’ of our artistes.

While thousands of hampers have been given out to those in need, and Government has arranged grants for those that may have lost their jobs, we have not heard anything being put in place for local artistes who are all mostly self-employed.

In this light, Southex will be streaming ‘live’ a ‘free’ Indian Arrival Day concert on Saturday 30th May featuring some of the top Local Bollywood singers in Trinidad and Tobago. The concert will be streamed via ‘Facebook’ and YouTube.

The concert will strike to raise funds for those artistes most affected by the Covid 19 Pandemic shutdown, streamed from a private location, with all social distancing regulations taken into consideration.

‘Arrival D Concert’ will be a full featured concert, with good stage and lighting.

The concert will run for 2 hours, from 5pm-7pm. There will be a ‘donate’ button, where all donations will go to a fund that assists artistes that have been most affected by the ‘Coronavirus’. People will be able to donate using a credit card via ‘Pay Pal’.

Arrival d Concert will feature Raymond Ramnarine, Rooplal Girdharie, Satnarine Ragoo, Veejai Ramkissoon, Reshma Ramlal, Anuradha Hansraj, Savita Singh and GI Beharry. All artistes will be supported by the Avatar band led by Kishore Wizzy Ramdath. The Show will be hosted by Big Rich.

Please note that all the artistes have donated their services.

Anyone willing to support the cause, can contact Southex at 6532908, 6538923 or via email at info@southex.co.tt.
