PRESS RELEASE
23rd September 2020
RE – DIVALI NAGAR 2020 – ‘YAADEIN’
THE MEMORIES OF A LIFETIME
The Divali Nagar produced annually over the last 33 years by the NCIC remains one of the premier events on the National calendar of events in Trinidad & Tobago.
Over the years, the ‘Nagar’ has become the largest ‘Divali’ celebration in Trinidad & Tobago, the Caribbean and for that matter the Western Hemisphere, attracting more than 150K visitors over the 9-night Festival. It has traditionally featured more than 300 booths with one of the biggest and most exciting annual food fairs in the country.
It has also featured 9 nights of entertainment on a magnificent stage setting that has been broadcast around the world attracting viewers by the tens of thousands.
Outside of the Independence Day celebrations, the annual ‘Nagar’ has also featured one of the largest ‘fireworks’ displays in the country viewed by thousands of people on the final night.
While a decision was made that the NCIC will not host a physical event this year due to the Public Health protocols that are presently in place and with consideration being given for public health and safety, the NCIC has decided to host a 9-night TV/Social media event, ‘YAADEIN’ from 5th-13th November 2020.
“Yaadein’ will bring back the most spectacular memories from past ‘Divali Nagar’ celebrations.
Each night will not only feature some of the best performances from past events but it will also feature ‘live’ presentations from special guests and a ‘live’ host taking you through the night’s proceedings.
The 2 hour production every night will be filled with the best local entertainment in Trinidad & Tobago. It will cover bands, dancers, tassa, folk theatre and every aspect of Indo-Trinidadian culture relative to the National celebration of the Festival of Divali.
The events will be broadcast via National TV nightly and also featured through all the available social media platforms – all ‘free’ to the public.
The Divali Nagar remains one of the most important events for the Indo-Trinidad market, and it is important to keep these traditions alive, especially in these challenging times.
We believe that the viewership for this event will exceed past years, in view of the fact that many people are inclined to be home bound in these times.
These special 2-hour packaged segments will also be marketed to an international audience.
