Ryan Ruben

My name is Ryan Ruben. I am from Brickfield Village, Waterloo in central Trinidad. Currently 26 years old I come from a musical family, the Yankarrans. My mother, Surekha Yankarran together with my uncles ensured my younger brother and I learned our family trade in singing and playing musical instruments as soon as we can move hands and utter a word. I grew up in a household where music was your everyday, our everything. Indian Classical, Religious and Traditional Chutney was nurtured into my blood at that tender age.
Growing up in this western world Chutney Soca evolved and this is were in my young teenage in adopted this artform. At the age of 14 a family band was formed named ‘Avatara’ consisting of family and close friends. We had the privilege of preforming at various prestige events.
At the age of 16 I was crowned the first Junior Chutney Monarch King being a student of Presentation College Chaguanas. I also presented my college at the yearly Carifesta event where I received various awards.
Being a new artiste, I entered this Chutney Cup because of the experience and knowledge I have acquired over the years as a musician and singer. Most importantly as a young to project positivity and inspire the younger ones. In this little way I’ll hope to contribute into our beautiful Trinidad and Tobago being better and peaceful place to live.
