Tobago gets its first ever Hindu Temple

The Tobago Hindu Society created history when they turned the sod at the construction site at what will be the First Ever Hindu temple in Signal Tobago. The temple is scheduled for completion in the year 2022. For more info and to view the full Sod Turning Ceremony, please see below:

By 2023, members of the Hindu faith in Tobago would have a place to call home. This, as the sod was turned on Saturday for the construction of the first Hindu Mandir in Signal Hill.

Speaking during the function, Secretary for Tourism, Antiquities and Culture, Tashia Grace Burris, said in 2014, deeds were handed over to the Hindu Society by the then Chief Secretary Orville London. She gave the assurance on behalf of Chief Secretary Farley Augustine that the construction would be completed quickly.

High Commissioner of India to Trinidad and Tobago, Arun Kumar Sahu, also gave a commitment to support. He expressed satisfaction with the work being carried out.

President of the Tobago Hindu Society, Pulwaty Beepath, gave brief remarks of gratitude to all who assisted including those who founded the Society.

Area Representative for Signal Hill/Patience Hill, Nigel Taitt, also pledged to provide support. Members of the Bahai and Seventh Day Adventist religions also brought remarks at Saturday’s ceremony.
